چکیده

SINCE the introduction of the formula by Gorlin and Gorlin in 1951,1 the cardiologist has been able to predict cardiac valve areas with considerable accuracy. Although the formula has distinct limitations, particularly in the presence of valvular regurgitation, its application in determining the severity of valvular and outflow tract stenosis has been widely accepted. The mathematics of the formula itself involve the derivation of a square root, two steps in division, and one step in multiplication. Final solution of the equation requires a moderate expenditure of time and invites four opportunities for mathematical error. In order to circumvent these disadvantages and at the same time to enhance the understanding of the relationships between the various factors employed in the formula, a nomogram has been devised.2

Inter-Operative Time between Neurosurgery and Cardiac Surgery for Native Valve Endocarditis

Introduction: Infective endocarditis is well known to produce neurologic complications from septic emboli, which mandates a multidisciplinary approach between neurosurgery and cardiac surgery. However, literature is not clear as to the optimal interval length between neurosurgery and cardiac surgery.Presentation of Cases: The first case involves a 60-year-old woman with significant past medical...

Tricuspid Valve Endocarditis in an Intravenous Drug Abuser: A Case Report

Recently, there have been more reports of cardiac valve infections due to the increasing number of intravenous (IV) drug abusers and chronic renal failure patients. Among cardiac valves, tricuspid valve is most commonly affected in the course of endocarditis. Appropriate management of these patients is a challenging and controversial issue in the field of cardiac surgery. Treatment options in s...

A new method of haemodynamic assessment of mitral stenosis in atrial fibrillation: construction of a nomogram.

Accurate haemodynamic assessment of mitral stenosis by hydraulic formulas requires measurement of the mean valve gradient and the cardiac output. The calculation is laborious, particularly in the presence of atrial fibrillation when averaged values obtained from multiple beat-to-beat determinations must be used. The relations between valve area, end diastolic gradient, and heart rate in 20 pati...

Pacman Heart as a Congenital Cardiac Defect Associated with Flail Mitral Valve and a Partial form of Shone\'s Complex; A Case Report

Partial muscular inter-ventricular septal defect (VSD) or Pacman heart is a rare congenital or occasionally acquired anomaly. Concurrent Pacman heart and Shone's complex are extremely rare and have never been reported until now. We described a 37-year-old male patient with congenital Pacman heart, flail mitral valve (FMV), and a history of multiple congenital anomalies, including subvalvular ao...

Right ventricular Hemodynamic Alteration after Pulmonary Valve Replacement in Children with Congenital Heart Disease

Introduction:  In patients who underwent surgery to repair Tetralogy of Fallot, right ventricular dilation from pulmonary regurgitation may be result in right ventricular failure, arrhythmias and cardiac arrest. Hence, pulmonary valve replacement may be necessary to reduce right ventricular volume overload. The aim of present study was to assess the effects of pulmonary valve replacement on rig...
